Learn to adapt the techniques and energetics of Ortho-Bionomy to relieve tension and pain. Self-Care addresses chronic aches and pains, imbalances and injuries. Relax tension patterns, increase awareness, improve balance, range and fluidity of motion and help to prevent future problems. Learn tools to help your clients between sessions.

Focus will be on areas often of concern to RMTs--shoulders, low back, neck and more.

This class presents the foundation principles and roots of Ortho-Bionomy and how to work with them. You will observe and practice specific techniques for releasing imbalances of the shoulder girdle, arm, elbow, wrist and hand; hip, leg, knee, ankle and foot. These techniques, which are easeful for both client and practitioner, result in the release of pain and neuromuscular tension patterns and promote an expanded range of motion, increased circulation and a greater sense of well-being.

Ortho-Bionomy is based on the notion that we all have self-corrective reflexes, physically and energetically, that when stimulated will produce a spontaneous release of holding patterns and help create structural alignment and balance from within. This is achieved through the use of gentle movement and exaggeration of the body's positions of comfort. It is safe and deeply effective.

The class will teach techniques useful for tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, bunions and more.

This course will introduce participants to sports massage. The types of sport massage [pre-event, post-event, between event] will be covered. Components such as tempo, pressure, strokes, timing, and objectives will be dealt with. Adjunct essentials such as the psychology of the athlete in the event scenario, equipment, charting, injury consideration, differentiation from generic relaxation massage, and role within the health care team will be covered. Differentiating techniques for various stages of training and competition will be considered.

Interactive lecturing with extensive practical application will be used. Participants should come equipped with shorts and t-shirts.

This course will cover:

Performing sport massage comfortably and safely;
Understanding how and why sport massage is to be performed;
Differentiating sport massage scenarios and delivering treatment accordingly;
Functioning appropriately within the health care team;
Knowing what equipment is required;
Interacting suitably with athletes in various scenarios;
Differentiating techniques beyond sport massage but within the sport medicine domain and their appropriate applications.

Participants will learn the things not to do, and be able to treat the nerves with massage, postural exercises and neural mobilizations. Auto insurance and WSIB provide great opportunities, but many RMTs find the system confusing and complex. As a result they often refer these cases to RMTs more savvy working within the system. Temporomandibular joint diseases and disorders, commonly called TMJ, are a collection of poorly understood conditions characterized by pain in the jaw and surrounding tissues and limitations in jaw movements. Injury and conditions that routinely affect other joints in the body, such as Arthritis, also affect the temporomandibular joint.

This course is designed to teach health care professionals the benefits, uses, and needs of the TMJ protocol, in treatment. Techniques include soft tissue releases, basic and advanced TMJ joint mobilizations, and basic effective Craniosacral. The theory includes an overview of the anatomy and functionality of the TMJ.
