The following is the latest information regarding COVID-19 on April 15, 2020 

Expanding the CERB

The Prime Minister announced that the Canada Emergency Response Benefit was expanded to provide help to more Canadians. If you earn $1000 a month or less, were expecting a seasonal job that will no longer be possible, or have run out of EI since January 1, you can now receive the Canada Emergency Response Benefit. This will help many RMTs who still have a small amount of income from other sources.

It was also announced that the government will be increasing the pay of essential workers who are making under $2500 a month.

There will be additional announcements about assistance for post secondary students and businesses looking for help with commercial rent in the coming days.

Mental Health Portal

During this pandemic, it is critical that Canadians be able to obtain credible information and access services to support their mental health and wellbeing.

The government has launched a new portal dedicated to mental health on Canada.ca/coronavirus and on the Canada COVID-19 app called Wellness Together Canada.This will connect Canadians to peer support workers, social workers, psychologists and other professionals for confidential chat sessions or phone calls, and will make it easier to find credible information and help address mental health and substance use issues.
