This one day practical course will focus on the therapist’s ability to assess and treat common low back dysfunctions in the clinic.  Techniques will be focused on assessing the muscles of the low back for decreased control, decreased endurance and imbalances.  The therapist will learn how to identify patients that will benefit from a stability exercise program.  This course is designed to challenge the therapist’s clinical reasoning skills, and the knowledge gained will be easy for the therapist to apply to clinical practice right away.

Learning Goals:

  • Be able to recognize common muscular compensation strategies used by patients with low back pain
  • Be able to identify which patients will benefit from a stabilization (strengthening) program
  • Be able to teach activation of the inner unit muscles (transverse abdominus, multifidi, pelvic floor)
  • Be able to test for normal strength/enduracne of the outer unit muscles (anterior, lateral and posterior core)?
