ABOUT RMTAO MEMBERSHIP

Welcome to the RMTAO's Membership Information section of the Web site! The information provided here provides an overview of the benefits of membership and cost to be a member. 

Our Flexible Approach to Membership

The RMTAO is proud to offer members for a second year flexible approach to association membership and services. Flex-membership was developed after years of listening to and learning what the profession wanted from its association.  It is designed to meet the unique needs of each Massage Therapist in Ontario and in doing so unite all Registered Massage Therapists through membership in the Association.

Our Commitment to the Profession

The RMTAO has been and remains committed to the profession of massage therapy in Ontario.  Along with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, the Ontario Council of Private Massage Therapy Colleges and the Heads of Massage Therapy in Community Colleges, the RMTAO is committed to ensuring that the profession is seen by its key stakeholders as valued professionals delivering compassionate care to optimize the health of Ontarians for life.  In our efforts to unite the profession and to becoming a stronger and more effective advocate, we are encouraging as many members of the profession to become members of the Association. With this in mind, the RMTAO introduced last year and continues this year with the lowest rates for membership through the Flex-membership structure.

Basic Membership (Active and Associate Members) for $88.25 (plus HST)

RMTAO's basic membership fee is only $88.25.  It includes a number of benefits and services including:

• Membership Certificate;
• Listing in and access to the On-line Membership Directory;
• The Friday File (50 editions);
• Access to our RSS News Feed Service;
• Office Support;
• Lower rates on RMTAO publications;
• Lower rates on RMTAO education programming;
• Access to our Career Centre with position postings and helpful career information;
• Lower rates on posting a position to the Career Listing Service;
• A subscription to Massage Therapy Today: Putting Knowledge into Practice (6 issues annually);
• Reduced Posting fees to the Career Centre;
• One listing on RMTFind.com (not included with Associate membership);
• Access to our Community Networks in Ontario (including regular updates and information).

Please note that the fee for basic membership is based on a membership year of October 1st to September 30th annually.  Individuals joining for the first time may be eligible for prorated fees at the time of enrolment. 

Membership Your Way with Optional Programs

The beneift of the RMTAO's Flex-membership approach is your ability to make tailor your membership to your own unique needs, circumstances and budgets.  You can do that by purchasing one, several, all or none of the Optional Programs available.

Last year, the RMTAO launched several exciting new programs and services and we are pleased to be able to continue those for the coming year.  We also have a new Point of Sale Program available for the coming year and some additions to existing programs.

How Flex-membership Works

Flex-membership is very easy to put in place for your membership.  You start with purchasing Basis Members for $88.25 (plus HST) which entitles you to all of the benefits noted above.  You then review all of the Optional Programs listed below and add the fees noted to your Basic Membership fee.

The following summary information is provided about all of the RMTAO's Optional Programs.  If you would like more detail, please click on the links provided.  Please note that for security reasons and to ensure that these programs are only available to RMTS, in order to view the linked information you must first have a profile with RMTAO (there is no fee to set up a profile) and that profile must include a valid e-mail address and valid Registration number from the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.  To create a profile, please review the purple bar at the bottom of this page.

Professional Liability Insurance	Provides for $3 million professional liability and $3 million commercial general liability insurance on an occurrence form. View details...	$99.00 CDN (+PST)  per year
Acupuncture Liability Insurance	Provide professional liability insurance coverage for those who include acupuncture as part of their practice. This may only be purchased in junction with the Professional Liability Insurance policy above.	$150.00 CDN(+PST)  per year
Ultrasound Liability Insurance	Provide professional liability insurance coverage for those who include utrasound as part of their practice. This may only be purchased in junction with the Professional Liability Insurance policy above.	$75.00 CDN (+PST) per year

Educators Interest Group	The Educators Interest Group is a grouping within the RMTAO, of individuals who are involved in the initial education of RMTs. It allows them to connect with other educators, create opportunities for sharing information, collaboration, encouraging high standards of excellence and inform the RMTAO Board of Directors of potential issues arising and possible solutions. Why Membership Remains Important and Relevant

Although the RMTAO does offer more programming than ever before for all RMTs, we have continued to focus our efforts on ensuring that there are significant benefits to being a member by offering relevant and current programming. 

Above everything that we might do, the RMTAO remains a voluntary professional association of Registered Massage Therapists who are dedicated to the advancement of the profession. The Association provides leadership, and encourages continued professional growth for its members.  Our primary source of funding is through membership dues and it is these dues that allows us to offer the benefits and programming that we do, in particular, the advocacy benefits that benefits the full profession.
